If I use a stereo audio cable from my dvd player to my 5.1 receiver, is that true surround sound?(5 sep. chn?)? - best 5.1 stereo receiver

The 5 independent audio channels? Front L and R, center, surround L and R, and LFE. Or what if you have an optical connection?
